Opera in and around Vicenza

For lyric opera lovers, from Rossini to Mozart and Verdi to Puccini, Vicenza and nearby communities have plenty of theaters to enjoy Italian opera.  From September to June, Palladio's Teatro Olimpico right downtown offers an unforgettable stage to view lyric opera such as Carmen and other classics. Padova (20 minutes from Vicenza) offers its own opera house - the Teatro Verde, while Verona (40 minutes from Vicenza) has its opera season held in the Arena.  The town of Bassano just 40 minutes north of Vicenza holds an opera festival called Opera Estate Veneto in the summer season, while Lonigo  (30 minutes from Vicenza) has its opera during the winter months.  Of course for real opera fans the opera houses La Fenice and Il Malibran in Venice Italy are quite accessible (an hour from Vicenza), or even La Scala in Milano (2 hours) for true opera aficionados.
