Villa Valmarana

We begin our walking tour here just behind the B&B.  The famous villa of the dwarves goes back a long way. Legend has it that the nobleman who lived here had a dwarf daughter who threw herself to her death after falling in love with a knight in shining armor and realizing she was different from the rest of the world and could never have his love.  Her father had commissioned dwarves from the countryside to work for him in an effort to protect her and prevent her from feeling inferior to the rest of the world.  The stone statues of the dwarves (far right) was an idea of Tiepolo (18th century) and represent the servants of the villa who were petrified upon seeing the much beloved daughter throw herself to her death.  Inside the villa are many frescoes lining both walls and ceilings by both father Giambattista Tiepolo as well as son Giandomenico.
