Medieval walled towns and cities are everywhere in Northern Italy, many of which are easy to reach on day trips from Vicenza.  Whether you are an Italian history buff or simply enjoy a stroll thru the past when dragons and castles were the focus of folklore, the Vicenza area offers its share of medieval walled cities, moats and all!

Vicenza is a good base for day trips to any number of medieval towns in Northern Italy, most of which are easily accessible by both public transportation or by car.  Marostica to the north is a 30 minute drive and boasts 2 castles, the upper castle at the top of the hill and the lower castle in the main square.  Both Montagnana and Soave (also famous for its wine) are surrounded by medieval walls which had moats in front of them as protection from invading armies, they too are easily reached in 40 minutes by bus or car.
