Venice and Verona make for good day trips and are easily reached by car or train in just 40 minutes. Vicenza is an excellent place to make home base as it is centrally located with plenty of nearby excursions ideal for good bike tours, day trips, and tourism in Italy. Northern Italy hosts many festivals and events which are fun for the kids and whole family. The historic chess match in Marostica is held in September in the main square in front of the lower castle in traditional costume. Gardaland on Lake Garda near Verona is fun for kids of all ages, as is a tour of Sirmione in the middle of the lake. A trip to the hot springs in Abano will refresh you after a long tour, and don't forget Romeo and Juliet's castles 10 minutes from Vicenza! |
